Gone But Not Forgotten

I just found out that a very good friend of mine, named Rachael, just passed away. I met Rachael years ago on the now almost defunct website LiveJournal, when we bonded over episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Rachael loved movies both good and bad. She had a fantastic sense of humor that was unique to her and she was a very caring person. She especially loved cats and ferrets.

And Sasquatch. Every year, around Christmas, she organized a gift exchange that involved giving people something with Sasquatch on it. I was tempted to give in and do it but I never did and I may never get the chance to again.

Rachael was, from what I saw, an excellent cook. She and her husband Tom rarely went out to eat and each day she'd painstakingly plan a meal and cook it. She'd take pictures of them and every damn thing she made look delicious. I said to her "I swear one day I'm gonna come over and try your cooking! It looks so damn awesome!" and she welcomed me to do so next time I was in her neck of woods, which was Arizona.

I'm sure the pictures didn't do her cooking justice but sometimes I wanted to jump through my computer screen and eat what she made.

As I mentioned, she loved cats. One of her cats was named, and this is the full name, Special Agent Dale Cooper. She was a hardcore Twin Peaks fan and was a fan of Kyle MacLachlan especially. I never got to ask her what her thought was on the new Showtime episodes.

She was also into golf, very big into memes, and HATED with a passion Donald Trump. To the point where she wouldn't even call him by name, she would call him "45". It's a shame she never got to see him arrested and taken out of office. We can only hope this will happen soon in her memory.

It saddens me that I never got the chance to meet her in person. As much as her personality came through the internet, I'm willing to be she was 50 times more awesome in person. I can't be 100% sure of this but when she made the leap from LiveJournal to Facebook I was one of the first people she friended, which meant a lot to me.

She just posted this one day and I wasn't prepared for it so when I saw it, I seriously fell out of my chair laughing. She loved sharing stuff like this.

Back in the ye olden days, when I ran Invasion of the B-Movies, I use to do these type of reviews called Mass Invasions. The idea was me and a bunch of my friends would watch the same movie and take turns writing the review of said movie. I asked for voluneteers and Rachael was the first person to step forward, followed by a lot of my other friends, some whom I don't even speak to anymore.

I don't remember what her first one was, I think it's lost to the ages but on my old Archived site, I have 2...and a half. I attempted to do Battlefield Earth but that review was cursed, CURSED I SAY! And poor Rachael tried and tried to get through it and she couldn't. So she had to drop out. But here's two other ones for you to check out.

Our Mass Invasion for Barbarella and Santa Claus.

Also thanks to her, I'm obsessed with finding lists on the ground. She had a strange fascination with this, the point where she created a secret Facebook group. It's a secret so I can't link to it. But now anytime I'm out, I look for lists in grocery shops.

To wrap this up, Rachael my oldest Internet friend, you will be missed. I am so sad we never got to meet face to face, never got to eat one of your meals, got to watch an episode of MST3K, never got to make fun of Troll 2, and never got to spend time together. I hope you are at peace.

This is seriously the only picture she uploaded of herself on Facebook. I think it speaks volumes about her.

To take us out, she LOVED Eric Carmen and his hair. So in a stirring tribute I present this:
